After seven years of R&D, CRB no-oiling filament-wound sliding bearings have recently been developed by CSB. These bearings are made employing a fiber-winding process, and offer outstanding load-bearing ability, wear performance, and corrosion resistance. They require no added lubricant, and actually provide optimal performance when no external lubricating medium is used.
Sliding bearings are commonly known as self-lubricating maintenance-free bearings. Although some sliding bearings can indeed temporarily or permanently operate without external lubrication, the application of lubricants will in fact improve the wear performance of most bearings of this type by several times or even several dozen times. In other words, bearings of this type generally provide optimal operating performance only when an external lubricating medium is supplied. To take an example, three-layer composite bearings - which are currently the most commonly used sliding bearings - largely depend on a PTFE lubricating layer that has been sintered on the top 0.03 mm of the bearing surface for lubrication. While the maximum linear velocity (V) of these bearings is 2 m/s when there is no external lubricating medium, the bearings can sustain a linear velocity of more than 10 m/s when lubricant is applied. In addition, the bearings' maximum dynamic load (P) increases greatly when external lubrication is present. This shows that the PV value of sliding bearings receiving external lubrication greatly exceeds the limiting PV value of bearings undergoing dry friction.
Researcher Ma Zanbing, who helped develop CSB's self-lubricating bearings, noted at a new product recommendation meeting: The successful development of CRB filament-wound bearings is a very significant event. In the field of sliding bearings, CRB filament-wound bearings are the first no-oiling sliding bearings developed in China, and are also the first major use of aviation/aerospace materials by the sliding bearing industry. The development of this bearing type means that China now has its own high-load non-metallic sliding bearings. CRB bearings can withstand a maximum dynamic load of 140MPa; from a user perspective, the bearings enable true lifelong maintenance-free movement of equipment joints, and can facilitate the transition to equipment requiring no lubrication systems. Furthermore, CRB filament-wound bearings are more environmentally-friendly than other types of sliding bearings; because they require no external lubricants, they can prevent the release of contaminants in the form of lubricating grease and oil into the environment.
